About the Good Hospitality Group.
Founded by Marten Dresen in 2013, The Good Hospitality Group operates on a unique model. Instead of focusing on profits, the social impact business reinvests earnings into education, training and supporting local businesses.
Our mission is to
Sleep good. Do good.
We have a proven track record of delivering high-quality hotels that create real social impact—both in Guatemala and right here in London’s Royal Victoria Dock. Since opening in 2016, the Good Hotel has actively engaged with the community, serving as a social hub offering an inclusive space for both guests and local residents. We have hosted a wide range of free events, including weekly movie nights, arts and crafts sessions, salsa evenings, and the London Jazz Festival. A full-time Programming and Partnership Manager, funded by the hotel, leads community engagement across areas such as education, wellness, creativity, business, and tech.

In recent years, the hotel has supported local entrepreneurs and provided space for activities like Zumba classes, maths tutoring, and martial arts. In 2023 alone, we offered 191 free spaces, increasing to 370 in 2024. The Good Hotel has also collaborated with local charities, including The Line public art trail, and supports Royal Docks initiatives by offering communal areas for exhibitions and community events.
Training local people
In 2015 we set up the Good Training Program in Amsterdam, our bespoke hospitality training course. The program includes one month of classroom study followed by three months paid work experience.
The program has been featured on BBC2 by Tom Kerridge’s ‘The Hidden World of Hospitality’ which can be seen here:

Since our arrival in London, we are proud to have partnered with Our Newham Works. On average, 60 places are offered each year, with over 220 residents having completed the program so far. More than 70% of trainees move on to further employment elsewhere through our matchmaking service with carefully chosen partners, whilst some have successfully progressed their hospitality career at Good Hotel.
